Typical Timescale

Obtaining a Grant of Probate normally takes between 4 and 5 weeks, however if the estate in question is large or contains a number of complex assets then it may take significantly longer. Below is a timescale for an normal application.

Week One

Initial Contact and Appointment - You meet our solicitor and discuss the estate, including all the financial and personal information of the deceased.

Week Two

Oath and Inheritance Tax Accounts Preparation – Using that information we will then draft an Oath of Probate and complete the inheritance tax returns for the estate. In more complex matters this stage may take significantly longer.

Week Three

Swear the Oath – You will meet with our solicitor who will accompany you to an independent solicitor who will Administer the Oath.

Weeks Four & Five

Application to the Probate Registry – We will make an application to the Probate Registry on your behalf. Once the Grant of Probate has been received we shall contact you to arrange delivery or collection.
